Animal Friends takes in 30+ dogs, ducks, cat from Middletown hoarding situation

Thirty-one dogs, including several puppies, two ducks and a cat were taken to Animal Friends.

“We don’t normally get ducks. We were very surprised to see them because you’re not allowed to own them in city limits anyways,” said Poffenbarger. “We brought them up here, they already have a rescue ready to pick them up today thankfully because we don’t have even the right supplies. We had to run out and get some.”

Animal Friends says this latest case puts them well over capacity and they need to free up some kennels.

“Most of all we need adopters right now and not even just for this hoarding case, they’re not ready for adoption yet, I have over 110 animals in this building that all need homes,” Poffenbarger explained. “There are at least 70 adoptable dogs in our building right now.”

The shelter says they can also use donations of food and cash to help cover things like medical treatments.

Kenneth Currey was arrested for cruelty to animals and permitting drug abuse, according to the Middletown Police Department.

Rachel Marshall, police said, was issued a summoned for cruelty to animals.
